When it comes to baseball, the excitement isn’t limited to just the swings and pitches; fielding is an important part of the game. Whether you’re just starting out or you’ve played for a while, these tips will help you become an excellent fielder.

Get in the Right Spot:

To make the perfect play, start by finding the best place to stand for your position on the field. Think about where the batter is likely to hit the ball and stand there. Stay on your toes so you are ready to move fast.

Practice with your glove:

Your glove is like a superhero’s shield. Practice catching balls to become a better catcher. Make sure your glove is well-maintained and comfy by breaking it in with glove oil or conditioner. Your glove should feel like an extension of your hand.

Stay low & Steady:

When catching grounders, bend your knees and stay steady. Keep your glove close to the ground. This helps you react quickly and make good throws. Do drills to work on balance and agility.

Release the ball Quickly & talk to your Team:

If you’re an infielder, work on your throwing mechanics. First, catch the ball. Then, quickly transfer it to your other hand and throw it accurately. Try to throw to a specific point, like the first baseman’s chest. Practice this motion repeatedly to improve your speed and accuracy. While you’re at it, talk to your teammates. Yell out loudly if you’re catching the ball to avoid confusion. Know where your teammates are so you don’t bump into each other.
